DFW Airport has committed itself to environmental stewardship for over a decade and has adopted an enterprise wide Sustainability Program, which applies green strategies and practices across the Airport. DFW has applied sustainable principles to its energy use, water management, alternative fuels, emissions reductions and materials recycling. In 2015, DFW became the first North American airport to achieve Level 3 Optimization in the Airport Carbon Accreditation program, meaning DFW has successfully reduced carbon emissions by nearly 25%, has engaged local partners on the airport to do the same, and are on a path to further reduce carbon emissions.
The Airport is in the midst of its Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program (TRIP) designed to renovate DFW’s four original airline passenger terminals and to better accommodate modern passenger desires, better customer flow, environmental sustainability and improved use of space. The entire TRIP project is scheduled for completion in 2020. These renovations serve to further DFW’s overall goals of remaining customer-focused, cost-competitive and operationally efficient.
