DFW International Airport Adds Mazatlán, Mexico Destination With New Frontier Airlines Flight

DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, (June 7, 2007) – Inaugural DFW – Mazatlán passengers savored spicy Mexican shrimp dishes and cooled down with “Bodegaritas” today, celebrating Frontier Airlines‘ first flight from North Texas to this popular Mexican Riviera town on the Pacific Coast. Mazatlán becomes DFW‘s fifteenth Mexican destination bolstering a robust route network from North Texas to Mexico. 

“It is a great pleasure to add Frontier Airlines to our list of international carriers and add a brand new Mexican destination for our passengers,” said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW. “Mazatlán and Frontier bring a fourth airline offering regular service from DFW to Mexico, increasing both competition between airlines and variety of destinations.”

Frontier’s new DFW service is its first flight to Mazatlán outside of the airline’s Denver hub. Joining American Airlines, Mexicana and Sun Country with service to Mexico from DFW, Frontier’s new service will bring DFW to 250 weekly departures to Mexico.

“Imagine a town full of history, think about a place where Carnival festivities rival those of Mardi Gras, with parades and music filling the night and a naval battle that displays fireworks in lieu of cannons,” said Urrea of his hometown. “That’s the Mazatlán I know, and now, thanks to Frontier Airlines, you can discover how much more it can be to you." 

Mazatlán is a resort destination that boasts sport fishing, museums, water sports and horseback riding in addition to world-class accommodations and dining with choices ranging from Japanese to Italian to one of a kind Mexican seafood.

The new addition is also expected to bring even more new activity to an already bustling International Terminal D. To commemorate the new Mexico service, chefs from the Airport’s Blue Mesa Grill, Cantina Laredo, TGI Friday’s and Bennigan’s whipped up shrimp dishes with a Mexican flair. To toast the inaugural flight, the Airport’s La Bodega Winery introduced passengers to “Winearitas” and Ben & Jerry’s dished out Mango Sorbet. The appetizing recipes are also located on DFW’s (www.dfwairport.com) website and include grilled blackened shrimp with mango salsa, shrimp quesadilla’s, shrimp churrascritas and camaron al majo de ajo. 

Passengers arriving back to DFW from Mazatlán will arrive at Terminal D. Frontier offers 7 daily non-stop flights to Denver where travelers can easily connect to anywhere in the United States and beyond. The new service will mark Frontier's 12th US city to connect to its 8 Mexican destinations.
