DFW International Airport Welcomes New Board Member

Ben Muro to Replace Pedro Aguirre on Airport’s Board of Directors

DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, TX (May 3, 2005) – DFW International Airport today welcomed Dallas businessman Benjamin (Ben) Muro as a member of the Airport’s 12- member Board of Directors.

The Dallas City Council last week approved Muro’s nomination to a two-year term on the Board. Muro, who will serve on the Operations Committee, replaces Pedro Aguirre, whose term expired at the end of January.

Ben Muro brings 30 years of workplace experience to the DFW Board of Directors. Muro currently serves as the Vice President of Human Resources for VALOR Telecom, where he is responsible for directing and implementing all human resources functions for over 1400 employees. Muro built that department from startup, and has served there for five years.

Prior to that, Muro served for a decade as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for the Parkland Health & Hospital System, directing human resources processes and functions for over 6000 employees.

Aguirre leaves the Board after more than eight years of distinguished service during some of the Airport’s most challenging times. Aguirre, an architect and founder and president of the Aguirre Corporation, served on the Operations Committee as its chair, and also served as Vice Chair and Secretary of the Board.

“Pedro has been an invaluable member of the DFW board, lending us his professional expertise in architecture and building design during the planning of International Terminal D and many other major projects here at DFW, “said DFW CEO Jeff Fegan. ”He has been an extraordinary resource during this extraordinary time period. Now, we look forward to the support of Ben and utilizing his skills in the future."

During his 15 years in North Texas, Muro has served on the boards of numerous community organizations. Currently he is working with the Calumet Center, which provides after-school and recreation programs for children in Oak Cliff. He also has served as Chairman of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and has served on the board of the American Red Cross and was with the United Way as Division Chair.

Muro is a veteran of the United States Army, where he was promoted to the rank of Captain and served in combat in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

Muro holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Ben Muro is a native of El Paso. He and his wife Sylvia have been married for over 30 years and they have five children.
