DFW International Airport’s CEO Receives International Honor For Aviation Industry Leadership
Aviation Consultants Council Recognizes Jeff Fegan With Its Aviation Award Of Excellence
DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, (November 17, 2005) – DFW International Airport CEO Jeff Fegan has received the Aviation Award of Excellence at the Airport Consultants Council’s 27th Annual Conference. It is the highest award given by the globally-recognized organization.
The Council said it selected Fegan as this year’s award recipient for “boldly facing political, financial, and operational challenges associated with the economic decline of several legacy airlines and the repercussions of the September 11 tragedy.” During this period of uncertainty, Fegan lead the world’s third-busiest airport through a $2.7 billion capital development program that included construction of a new international airline terminal and the world’s largest airport train. He and DFW also led the airport industry in working with the federal government on security enhancements in place today.
“Jeff Fegan appropriately, yet forcefully, expressed the grave concerns shared by many of our colleagues to the Transportation Security Administration and to Congress with regard to security mandates,” said Paula P. Hochstetler, Airport Consultants Council President. “Jeff has consistently provided invaluable leadership as a credible airports and industry spokesperson.”
“I am humbled to be recognized for the work I have done in the industry,” said Fegan. “We have a great board of directors and management team at DFW and I am honored to be a part of it.”
The Airlines Consultants Council detailed Fegan’s management qualities that led to his selection including, “an extraordinary ability to effectively communicate. He listens and accepts the opinions of the airlines, the public, government agencies, politicians and consultants. Fegan consistently goes out of his way to exhibit a genuine and sincere interest in the opinions and well being of others - a rare quality in this day and age,” the award citation reads.
Fegan has been at DFW for 21 years, beginning his career in the planning department and becoming CEO in 1994. He earned a master’s of City Planning degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree from Frostburg University, Maryland.
