Spirit Airlines Adds New Service from DFW International Airport to Chicago O'Hare

Ultra-low cost carrier growing operations in its first two months at DFW

(DFW AIRPORT, TX – June 21, 2011) – Spirit Airlines today announced that it will be adding fights from DFW International Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Spirit’s new service to Chicago will consist of two flights a day, plus a third daily flight added on a seasonal basis.
“We are extremely pleased to see Spirit Airlines adding service from DFW to Chicago O’Hare, in addition to its service to Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas.” said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. “It’s great to see that Spirit sees an opportunity for growth and competition here at DFW, which will benefit our passengers with even more travel options and competitive fares.”
Just last month, Spirit Airlines launched twice-daily nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Fort Lauderdale and to Las Vegas. The total economic impact of all of Spirit’s new flights will be worth well over $150 million annually into the Dallas-Fort Worth economy, in the form of new visitors and spending with local businesses.
“At DFW, we will continue to seek new routes and new air service for the flying public and for the residents of Dallas-Fort Worth,” said Fegan. “Our core mission is to bring new air service to the region, as each new daily flight can bring millions of dollars in annual economic impact to our community.”
With the Spirit announcement, DFW Airport maintains its strong momentum in adding new air service during fiscal year 2011. In addition to Spirit, the Airport has seen the arrival of Qantas Airways and Virgin America as new carriers.
DFW travelers are also enjoying new service to a total of nine new international destinations this year, including Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Barbados, along with four locations in Mexico including Querétaro, Veracruz, Mazatlán and Morelia, and seasonal service to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
